Two more images of the Bugbabes environment

One of the great things about having created a 3d Fimo model of the old tree stump, is that in every shot of their environment it just looks right.

Tree Stump - 360 Test

This is a basic test that I put together to begin to get a feel for the Bugbabes environment.

The Old Tree Stump - Design

I can't think how many tree stump designs I drew for this project! But the turning point came when I made the switch between drawing and modeling.

After struggling to find an aesthetically pleasing shape, as well as a functional form, I found working in Fimo an intreresting alternative that seemed to be leading me in the right direction. The Old Tree Stump is the centre of the Bugbabes' world and needed to have its own character but I wanted it to be really simple too. Once I was happy with the design, I then secured it to some white card and photographed it against a white backdrop.

I then imported the photos into Flash and traced each of them off to create a working 3d model. By doing this, I could then use a number of different angles of the tree stump for promo shots , as well as getting a better sense of the environment I was creating.

In the pilot animation there's no interaction with the tree stump, other than it being in the background but I'm looking forward to the characters interacting with it in future episodes.

I still look at the model and think I'd like to change a few bits but the reality is, that when you're against a deadline...

'Dogg' animation - now live

I always enjoy working for The Brothers McLeod although sometimes I do wonder what planet they're from!

'Dogg' was an animation they produced and I was lucky enough to be asked to animate one of the episodes. Really sweet character and I hope that it has a chance to go further.
